The basics of SEO marketing for a new business

Starting a new business is one hell of an exciting part of your life which you should spend time to enjoy. There are so many cogs which you have to control to maintain enough business to at least break even at around 50% of small businesses fail within the first year and 95% failing within 5 years. This is a worrying figure for anyone starting a new business but with plenty of planning, research and finance, I’m sure you will succeed.

Nowadays, getting seen by prospective customers is fairly easy to acheive due to the number of avenues that you can use. Today, I will be discussing how useful SEO marketing is for anew business.

Now SEO marketing strategies vary across agencies but the methods are all the same. The SEO that I have learned is based off 4 pillars; Off-site SEO, On-site SEO, Technical SEO and Content SEO. I will now explain what each one is and the activities involved in simple and easy language so it does not get too confusing.

Off-site SEO

Off-site SEO involves the processes of action taken off your website to impact your results on the search engine. The two main factors to off-site SEO are Google My Business and backlinks to your website.

  • Google my Business is a free tool to broadcast your business locally. When people search for ‘plumbers near me’, they are given businesses in the local proximity which are listed on Google my Business which means that you could get free exposure.
  • Backlinks are links on other websites that link back to your website. These show to the search engine that you are a reputable site and one that

On-site SEO

On-site SEO is the process of optimising the website to rank higher in search rankings online. The two main aspects of on-site SEO are optimisations to the content and HTML source code. Use keywords and relevants words in the HTML source code to help the search engine understand what content is on the page. Similarly, with content optimisation, use keywords, headers, paragraphs, bullet points/lists as these are indicators to search engines that the content on the website it user friendly.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO is a much more complicated method of SEO in comparison to the other techniques listed because it involves altering the configurations of the website like page elements, HTTP header responses, XML Sitemaps, redirects, meta data and more. It ie best that you research techinical SEO more if you are after more information since it is a complez technique.

Content SEO

Keywords are important tools to help you rank your website. By using keywords which consumers use to search on Google, you let Google know that you are a relevant website to visit. Google Keyword Planner is a very useful keyword research too that provides the most common and most search topics relating to a specific keyword. It is important to use the keywords that you have found across your website, in relevant areas. Writing blog posts is a common method used in content SEO.

It is important that you follow these tasks if you want to optimize your SEO to attract new customers as these are the basics of SEO as it gets progessively more complicated and labourious to complete.
